I think my gourami is sick, with what I do not know. His colouring is fading and he looks very pale. His appetite is good, water changes have been regularly done. Temp is 24C/76F, pH 7.6, tank mates are zebra danios. He looks quite a bit smaller which leads me to think of parasites? Plz suggest diseases and cures!

Is this a one time thing, or has he been this way for more than one day? Gouramies tend to pout occassionally--sometimes they don't like a tankmate, or if there's a temp change. A one day paleness is probably not a problem, especially if not accompanied by behavior/feeding changes.

As long as he is still eating with the vigour taht most gouramis have then I wouldn't worry too much. Just keep you eye on him for a few days. My gouramis always change colour.

we need to know more about behavior, especially feeding as tkos wrote above. my blue and pearl gouramis change color a little from time to time. especially the blues: depending on their mood i have a couple that seem to change from a bright, translucentish blue to a much darker, almost navy.

His colouring has been paler for about a week now. It tends to come back a little more after he eats. I wondered if maybe he wasn't getting enough greens (even tho he munches on my sword!) so I threw in some lettuce which he hasn't been able to figure how to eat yet. Diet is blood worms and brine shrimp (frozen). Do you think diet could be a reason for this change? Maybe I have not been feeding him enough? His tank mates are 10 adults zebras and 3 teenage zebras, who are much better at getting food.

Might be a diet issue. I'm thinking dwarf gourami like plant matter in their diet. Green leaf lettuce blanched for a couple of seconds is a good start I think. Don't currently have any gourami myself so maybe someone else has some diet suggestions.

Blanching lettuce is just putting it into boiling water, right?
Does this make the lettuce have less nutritional value?

Are you feeding this guy strictly the worms? What about some regular flake food. Various flake food is pretty much all my gourami gets and since it floats ont he top for a bit he is very good at getting to it. He does pick at shrimp tabs and algae as well.

Well something is happening to the gourami. His scales look all cracked, and he's developing a whole in his tail fin. It has a little bit of white around it. I have done a lot of water changes so I don't think that's the problem. I guess I will add some melafix. What is this disease called?

Someone please help? He only seems to be getting more pale and thin. Melafix did not seem to help at all.
