is it ok to keep guppies with a commet and a shibunkin goldfish or will the guppies get eaten?

I think there are a number of reasons not to keep them together:

They eat different food

They prefer different temps

They look bad together (their colors and motions look bad together)

Goldfish get large and can easily eat fish like guppies

Goldfish put out a lot of waste

Faster tropicals can bother goldfish

I agree with kikuchiyo on this one, The size differences, and water requirements would make it really un feasable.

platies with guppies, or platies with goldfish?

Goldfish are cold water fish. They should not be kept in a tank with any tropical fish.

Platies + guppies = Yes
Platies + goldfish = No

HTH some...

If you go to your lfs and have a look at the coldwater section, you'll see tons of different varieties of goldfish... I'm not at all familiar with them, but know that Petsmart has about 15-20 tanks w/ different varieties.

Hopefully someone else can give you more specific fish types. How big is your tank? That's important when deciding what type of fish.

ok then what fish do go well with golds

Not many. Some people keep white cloud mountain minnows with goldfish as they're both coldwater fish, but the goldfish will get big enough to eat them. And they don't look attractive together.

Some people keep cool water loaches with goldfish. I don't have much experience but the waste aspect seems to factor in.

I think goldfish tend to look best with each other. A few similarly shaped goldfish of varying hues is most impressive.
