I have a problem with one of my goldfish. For a while now its been pooping very long stringy white strands. I've tried changing its diet to more green veggies and defrosted bloodworms, to adding aquarium salt with every water change. The fish is still swimming and eating normally but I'm worried that it's the beginning of an internal bacterial/parasite attack (seeing as nothing else has worked).
For example, today I fed my goldies broccoli and now they're all pooping thick green poops.. apart from this one problem goldie who is still just pooping white threads.
I've heard great things about the medication Prazi, but it seems to be totally unavailable in the UK. Does anyone know of an equivalent??

Thanks

How big is the goldfish in question? The reason I am asking is that sometimes if females become egg laden and do not spawn, therefore reabsorbing the eggs, they will have funny looking feces that is white and stringy with small bubbles in it.

It may be the sign of an oncoming infection, but I would not start dosing meds just yet. Over medicating can cause organ damage and be just as deadly as any disease. Until you have other indications of illness and more of a positive diagnosis, hold off on the meds.

I do think that it would be a good idea to use an antil parasitical treatment. With goldies it can never hurt.

How long is "awhile?"

As praziquantel is just one of the milder yet effective treatments, I'd actually go for that one. Veterinary clinics are great sources. I realize UK is very strict about regulating treatments but if you have dogs that need deworming, you could take advantage of that. Praziquantel is also effective against flukes so that's a bonus.

Flubenol also works for internal parasites. I think that one is a bit more available in UK. Your other option is consult Interpet if they have meds that contain praziquantel. Pure praziquantel is your best bet. I wish corrieberry is still here to help us with the praziquantel because she is from UK as well but I know she has not been around lately.:(

Thanks for the help guys! "A while" is about 2 months. The fish does occasionally have air bubbles in the poop but I just assumed that was from feeding too much pellet food. So it looks like Bruce might actually be Brucette?

I think Prazi may be available on ebay - you could try looking there. My fish do put out some of that stringy poo, and it's usually when I haven't fed them for a day or two. Perhaps you could try feeding them smaller amounts twice a day.
Prazi is such a gentle medication that there's no harm in using it even if they are clear of parasites - your challenge is simply finding it. You could check if there are regulations banning the import of it or if it's simply unavailable. If it's not illegal to ship, I have a whole tub that I'd be willing to scoop from for you. It wouldn't be enough to dose for a month or anything, but at least for a week or so. I'm sure other members would be willing to help out, too. Just be sure to check those regulations.
