Hi My poor goldfish (1st fish) apparently has Ich pretty badly. I have read about the salt treatment, which I'm doing, but I understand the water must stay salty for 14-21 days. How do I keep it clean? He's just in a one-gallon fishbowl.

I dont think you want a long speech about why goldfish shouldnt be in bowls but in tanks of at least 15 gallons do you?

Goldies get ich in times of stress. Salting to .3% will get rid of parasites which is a teaspoon per gallon three times twelve hours apart.
As he is only in one gallon of water you will need to clean his bowl out three or four times a day, which means you need to calculate the amount of salt you put in and readd it after a bowl change and before adding the fish back in. Keep the fish in the old water while you do it and make sure its temp matched and dechlorinated.

Good luck with him.

You need a bigger tank. The ick was probably brought on by stress from being in that little bowl. What type of goldfish is it? What are your water parameters? Ammonia Nitrite Nitrate? You really should consider getting yourself a 20 gallon tank at least for your friend if you want to keep him healthy.
