my Oranda is recovering nicely from fin rot....im using melafix and pimafix.....when can i add new fish....i am having snails taking over are there any fish i can put with him that will eat the snails????

Did you determine what the underlying cause of the finrot was? Usually it's a water quality issue. If that's been resolved, then I would say you would be ok doing so as soon as the oranda is back up to speed, provided you have enough room in the tank.
The Oranda itself should keep the snail population in check though. An exploding snail population is usally a sign of having more food than necessary in the tank (although an Oranda can produce a decent amount of usable material for snails). Maybe try reducing the amount of food you put in the tank and seeing if the Oranda doesn't solve the problem for you.
