I was having a private conversation with Roan Art, and out of nowhere came the acronym PITA. Although I know it means Patoloco Is Totally Awesome, she insisted it has another meaning.

Do you have any other funny acronym? Perhaps like BMW standing for Big Money Waste?

I'm not sure about made up acronyms... But at work we deal with TIT codes.

My boss uses "CYA" a lot.

To me, cya means "cya later", but his meaning is "Cover Your @$$"

What about sincere ones that are just unfortunate?

There's a federal grant program designed to encourage private landowners to improve wildlife habitat one their properties: Landowner Incentive Program.

Or, codes. We use three character alpha codes to indicate aquatic species present in Wyoming. RBT = rainbow trout, FHM = fathead minnows, etc. Thought goes into the codes, to make sure they make sense and clearly connect with the species name. The problem? One species: Kokanee. It's actual code is KOE, but many users try to enter it as KOK. Sigh.

I have two that I made up when I was working as a Network Analyst:

DFU
DFA

Let's just say that my boss wasn't happy when I closed a help desk ticket with "DFU" as the cause :)

Hrm, if you ever worked in a trouble shooting or help desk position, you'll be able to figure out what they mean ;)

And of course, RTFM!

Roan

OE--with numbers. OE1 means the person should not be allowed to be in the same room with technology. Period. The type challenged by a rotary phone.

NMP: a twist on the Hitchhiker's Guide the Galaxy SEP (the book, not the movie)

RTFM: Read The Full Manual, of course. :)

TARDIS

Time And Relative Dimension(s) In Space. Dr Who's company car, so to speak. I'm unsure as to whether it's one or a number of dimensions. Perhaps someone will clarify?...
