fresh water and salt water plants

could any one tell me what the difference is between fresh water plants and salt water plants. And will a fresh water plant survive in a salt water tank and a salt water plant survive in fresh water. And why will they survive or why won't they survive.
Any info will greatly be appreciated. The info is for a science project my grand-daughter is doing for her science fair.

To my knowledge other than a few sea grasses there are no saltwater plants. Seaweed is actually a form of algae (macro algae).

Freshwater plants can't survive in saltwater. They start to die out when the salt level gets to around 1.004 SG (which is alow level of brackish water).
