I wanted sugesstions on food for my 6 malawi Mbuna cichlids. The LFS said they are vegans and sold me Oceans Nutrition formula two flake fodd for flavor and coloation W/ extra algae. But I also heard its good to offer variety and switch with different foods. What do you suggest?

2 elcetric blue johnni,
2 socolfi
2 yellow labidichromis

I just use cichlid granules...they had pictures of malawis on em and are mostly vegetable matter..

Yes its good to alternate what you feed them, the more variety the better. I give mine either Spectrum or Hikari pellets, flakes, shrimp pellets, and frozen cube food. They also munch on the algae wafers and cucumbers that I leave for my gold nugget. I had 2 danios left over from cycling that I couldnt catch and they dissapeared soon after I got the peacocks, but I havnt fed them anything else live.

I feed my Red Zebra TetraCichlid granules, as suggested above. He loves them. Do NOT feed them worms of any kind (even freeze dried) as I've heard this can be deadly to them. It may just be one of those "bs rumors" but I'm not taking any chances.
