I have a green terror and a flowerhorn. they get along great. What is the growth rate for both? I bought them because they get humps on their head as they mature. How long does it take to get the (HUMP) to the biggest size?
THANKS

they both will grow quickly, the flowerhorn perhaps a bit more rapidly. Be wary, as they mature FH's often need to be kept alone as they have VERY aggressive personalities. But if you have a large enough tank it may not be a problem, esp since its not another FH.
as for the nuchal hump question, I believe you will notice a change at around four-six months depending on water conditions and other envioromental factors. Also, males will develop a much larger hump than females- (i am not even sure if female FH or GT will develop one!!) Hope that helps a little bit, and have fun with your fish! Good luck...

btw, what size and how much did you pay for your flowerhorn? i paid five bucks for an inch long fry here in seattle, but the same store had four inchers for $95.00, and full grown adults for 500+! crazy prices but great fish!!!

Wow! two of my fav's. The two are not compatible(generally), but if raise together in a large(75gal plus)tank, who knows. Alot depends on individual specimens. I keep my fh with an african(malawi)cichlid and the two have a sort of love/hate relationship that works. Good h2o, nutrition, hiding spots and whatever keeps stress to a minimum is key.

Oh, about the hump. I've found that not every male specimen of either species will display this characteristic. Especially with flowerhorns. That fish has been so selectively bred that now, "Quality specimens" display the hump at 3". The demand for fh fish has also increased the availability randomly bred fh which have a good chance growing a hump, but not such good chance of growing the huge golf ball sized hump that most people seem to look for. The former goes for $300plus but I once got lucky with a $7 fh from petland.
