I have questions on a 120g 5ft x 1.5 ft tank & additional support I might need. The tank will sit against a load bearing wall perpedicular to an outside wall & 2 x 8 floor joists (16 on center). Should I /can I use a 4 x 4 going from the cinder block outside wall to the 4th joist supported by a metal floor jack/ lolly column. It would run parallel to the central support beam of my house about 30-36 inches away.
I have to dodge the washer & 2 sets of radiator supply pipes. I would need to use 2x4s (or other dimension) to build up the block wall end too. Or just have a second jack under the joist closest to the cinder block wall.

Does this sound reasonable/needed or is it under/overkill? I'm on the fence :help2: It'll be my biggest tank & I'm nervous  1500ish lbs is a lot

My 125 has 2 post jacks under it.
I look at it like this.

It cost me about $45 for the 2 posts, and some lumber, and a big extra piece of mind. Knowing its not going to fall through the floor is well worth the cost.

My house is about 100 years old.
My tank is in the approximate center of the house, not near any supporting walls, and runs parrallel to the floor joists, so my situation is a little different than yours.
I built triple 2x4 beams that span across 3 joists under the tank and put my posts jacks under them. tnak has not moved at all since i set it up a few years ago.

I hear what you're saying Zig. It's less the cost than the posts right by the washer, I already dodge 1 about a foot away near the dryer. I wonder how far away they could be from the beam & still support the tank enough. It looks like the beam supports are every 4-5ft. Maybe thats a way to go...
