What are some fish that do not essentailly need filters (as long as their tank is cleaned frequently) (besides bettas)? Can red tailed sharks live in a goldfish bowl? I saw a picture of a RTS in a goldfish bowl. Thanks

Sorry, in my opinion no fish should live in a bowl nor should any fish live without at least a biological filter of some sort. Fighting fish for example can do it, but it's mean. Although you still wouldn't be able to keep red-tails, it's much better to get a five-gallon tank with an AquaClear Mini and have a few small fish. That's not too expensive. Just my two cents.

what?!?!?

No.

red tail sharks reach up to 6", maybe more. they need filters, and they need heaters. there are NO fish that should be forced to live without proper filtration in tanks that are too small for anything to live in.

No, they can't live in a bowl. Hopefully the fish you saw was only placed in the bowl for photographic purposes and not actually housed there.

Bettas should have filters and heaters just like any other fish. I wouldn't keep one in less than a 2 gallon tank or bowl (and bigger is better, they appreciate room). And if it must be unfiltered, there should be a minimum of 75% every other day water changes.

I can't think of any fish appropriate for a bowl. Some shrimp or snails would probably be the only thing I'd relegate to life in a bowl.

Bowls should be banned by animal protection agencies.

I brought my friend to Big Al's the other day and she wanted to get a Betta bowl. I didn't have any of that, I tell you.

RTS's don't belong in bowls (no fish does), or even a small fish tank for that matter.

All fish need some sort of water filtration. frequent cleaning is stressful to your fish and not to mention a lot of work for you.

i agree, fish bowls should be discontinued.

No worries, I was just wondering. My bettas are in 3-10 gallon tanks (filtered).
