Hey everyone,

I recently got a 33 Gallon tank with a UGF and an undersized powerfilter cycling with some Zebra Danios. I plan to put my two koi angelfish in the bigger tank and was wondering what other fish would go with the angels. I also plan to put the Danios into my ten gallon tank when I get the other fish.

Thanks for any advice you may have.

I was thinking of leaving my danios in the tank and using my 10 gallon as a quarantine tank. How many sailfin mollies and either Rummynose or Neon tetras could I have with 2 angels 2 danios and 1 cory cat?

0 of each. angels can get big, like 6 inches, and they will eventually go after and eat the neons first, and then the rummynozes, since they are small and slender and fit into their mouths nicely. the zebras may also be targeted, but since they can get a little bigger than the tetras, it wont be a problem for a while.
with the mollies, they need totaly different water conditions, harder water, salt, the works. also, males can be a bit nippy towards fish with longer fins if they dont have the proper ammount of females to distract them (much like swordtails)

if you really wanted tetras, go with a school of black skirts, or redeys, or lemons, and if you can find them at a good price , diamonds (they can be quite exensive, at petsmart they were $5 each, and they are like $7 on www.liveaquaria.com)

also, you might want to get your corydoras a few friends, maybe 2 or 3.

what size is your HOB filter? what brand is it? you need to think aobut this stuff before you get the other fish

that filter is way to small. you should get a Penguin 200 or an Aquaclear 200, along with the other filters you already have
as i said there are tetras that can go with angels, and that would probably be your best bet

you could stock fish that occupy the lower half of the tank.

rams or cories or BN catfish.

if you do go with tetras get the larger ones. angels are basically an ambush predator and will target the smaller tetras. and they do get relatively large. I have danios in with large angels the danios are constanly in motion and for the most part safe..but given their size they could also be a target. the danios will probably be best off in the 10 as you have planned.

also are you running a powerhead on the ugf? have you considered a RFUG (reverse flow) ??

also I concur..you should upgrade the power filter to a larger capacity I like th AC's personally ( I do have some penguins) I would go with an AC200/50 they have them at petsmart (internet price is $19.99) you can also run the underpowered filter too.
these will give mechanical and biological filtration.

I thought rams were more like middle level swimmers. Also, don't they require soft water? I was thinking about getting two myself (both same sex to prevent spawning aggression), but I have fairly hard water.

I have 2 Rams in my 15g and I have moderatly hard well water. They are healthy and active. Just thought you'd like to know.

Many people assume these fish only thrive in brackish water conditions. Not true. In fact, although my water is somewhat hard (well water) they have been healthier and more active since I stopped using salt as a tonic months ago in all my aquariums. Salt is not a nescessity with these fish anymore than it is for my goldfish. Or mine have some genetic manipulation I don't know about.

thanks! I thought they'd be OK, just wanted to know. I've got a few "soft water" species in my fairly hard water (glass cats, dojo loaches) and they're thriving!

I guess specific water parameters are more important if you plan to breed, which I don't have the slightest interest in.
