I was wondering if people would like to share some ideas of what they feed their fish. Other than the obvious of shop bought flakes, pellets, frozen worms etc.
I'm talking about regular stuff they find around the house or garden that their fish love.
Like Im struggling to find anything my Acaras like, they dont seem to except anything but blood worms, which isn't exactly a varied diet.
On the other hand my severum will eat any thing. I feed him worms out the garden, water boat men from the pond and cabbage as ocasional treats.
Oh and I bought some moss balls as well as decoration which he and the mollies ate!

I feed my fish a bunch of different things. A little bit of flake most days, occaisionally a few peas, or a small slice of cucumber. Once in a while even small piece of lettuce. Frozen bloodworms very rarely. I worry a little about pesticides on fresh veggies, so they don't get that very often. (I wash, then skin the cucumber, and blanch it. Same with lettuce.) The peas are frozen, I boil em for a minute in the microwave and then pop them out of the skin, squishing a little as they go in. The peas dissapear pretty quickly, my weather loach loves em. (He's a little hoover, though... eats most everything.) I have two dwarf gouramis who like the peas, but not as much as flake. The DG's will pick at the lettuce (kinda like they are bored)

Nothing seems to eat the cucumber when I put it in. (That I've seen)

I've read that cabbage, zucchini, and seaweed is good also.

I also occaisionally give them some "Tropical pellets" (basically flake pellets) and the sinking spirulina wafers. They don't eat the spirulina wafers very fast either, they often get picked out the next day.

All in all, I *really* try not to overfeed, mostly they get peas when they get fresh veggies. All the others spend up to a day in there, (lettuce, cucumber) then get sucked out with the 'ole gravel vac.

I do the bloodworms only a few hours before a water change. They strike me as being very messy, but all the fish go crazy for em. (DG's, corys, neons, and the weather loach all seem to love em.)

I used to feed my goldfish (I've learned my lesson on GF keeping since then) whatever bugs i could find... He loved em. As long as they fit in his mouth, down the hatch they went. Alive, dead, made no difference.
