Will they eat micro worms? Any problems feeding the MW to them? I shy away from bloodworms (frozen) since I seem to get bacteria infections when I feed them. What about frozen brine shrimp? There will be 8 in their own tank.
Micro worms are pretty tiny. I prefer a variety in their diet--they need veggies, too. Zucchini slices, sinking pellets, brine shrimp, etc. Rinsed bloodworms will be consumed very rapidly, as will just about anything. Are you saying you get sick, or that the tank gets a bacteria bloom? If the former--check with a docter, you may have an allergy. If the latter, try feeding less, and make sure to rinse them after thawing.
I find that when I feed frozen blood worms to my fish I always tend to get one fish that comes down with dropsy and dies. I don't trust the blood worms.
I would feed the micro worms every now and then. Also the frozen brine shrimp would be fed like once or twice a week. I have algae wafers, regular bottom feeder wafers, shrimp pellets, and flakes to alternate with. I didn't know that the loaches would eat Zucchini. How big a slice and how long do you leave it in? What about cucumbers?
I happen to have the MW on hand because of having fry from other breedings so I wondered if they would eat them and if there would be any problems.
Oh my god, are u saying my kuhlis will die as well??? EEk, well, i've been feeding mine blood worms for the last two weeks, AquaOne brand... gee id better start thawing them HEAPS more...
I feed them pellets and worms... hopefully nothing bad will come from it
I don't know if the blood worms would bother the kuhlis that way or not. I have bettas and the blood worms will cause dropsy with them if there is any type of bacterial infection in the bw.
I gues I've been lucky. I feed a lot of frozen bloodworms with no apparent problems. Have had issues that I associated with live black or tubifex worms. That's why I switched to frozen bloods, though I know bacteria may survive the freezing.
Bloodworms do not cause dropsy. The poor water conditions that may result from lots of decaying protiens may, but the blood worms don't. I've fed blood worms to all my tanks for years and never had dropsy in a single tank.
Trust me, it's something in the blood worms causing the problem. When I feed a fish a blood worm and within 12 hours it goes from a very healthy happy fish to one that loses it color and hangs in a corner and dies within 4 days it's something in the blood worm. Some sort of bacteria. I don't have any other problems with the fish, no fin rot, no fungus, nothing and the water tests 0 so I know it's not bad water. There is never any left over food in the tank. I feed very sparsely. The fish are on the hungry side all the time. The young fish don't seem to have a problem with it. It's always the older fish. I happen to have over 100 fish at present. The fish receive 3 blood worms each about twice a week.
I ordered the blood worms especially from Foster/Smith web site but they did not arrive frozen, just cold. Someone suggested getting the block food rather than the cubes which can thaw out quickly.
I feed my clown loaches frozen blood worms and brine shrimp daily, it only last like half a minute before it is devoured. I think it is Hakari brand or something like that. You might have other prbolems, or you are over feeding them?
