A couple weeks ago I went to a neighboring town public park for a walk. There is a large pond in middle of the park with a large amount of very large Koi fish, the fish were on an average larger than 2 feet some of them were in my opinion almost 3 feet in length with buetiful colors and markings. There was a man sitting on the bank of the pond with a loaf of white bread feeding these Koi fish and the fish were in a feeding frenzy, I never seen anything like that, there must have been over a 100 large Koi going crazy eating the bread and a feaw ducks tring to steal some of the bread from the fish. My question is, is it safe to feed Koi human food like bread with out harming the fish. It seemed those Koi loved it.

It could cause constipation, but other than that, it's just okay, not a whole lot of substantial foods, like protein. You're not thinking of feeding your Koi this, are you??

It may be bad for them (just as tons of things we eat are bad for us!!!) but it is probably the only feeding that is done for them so leave the old man alone and let him enjoy his time and good deed of feeding the fish.
If you want to do something good yourself go get some real koi food and feed the fish and give a bag to the old man while you are at it he would probably enjoy feeding them that too just doesn't know or can't afford to buy it on a limited income.

I wouldn't feed it to my fish, but the carp and catfish at a local forest preserve seem to like it. The carp look like flipping porpoises...

At the botanical garden in St. Louis they had a huge Japanese garden with a bunch of gorgeous Koi. They also had these little things set up where you pop in a quarter, turn the knob, and get a handfull of koi pellets. Like in a petting zoo. It was very cool. The MOBOT is one of the things I actually miss about St. Louis.

And the Red Birds too no?
