Feeding Danios, or just Feeding in General

My question is in regards to how often and how much I should feed my fish. I just purchased 5 Long Tail Zebra Danios and fed them a small pinch when I got them home. They range from 1" to 2" in size.

I've heard everything from feeding daily to every other day to every couple of days. Are there general guidelines to follow? Or anything specific from my Danios?

Thanks for the information!

There is no rule set in stone other than its bad for your fish, and bad for your water quality to overfeed. I feed a small amount once daily and fast once a week. The only time fish should need much more than that is if you have fry or something like juvenile discus that need frequent feedings for growth. Many people feed every other day, some feed twice a day. As long as your water maintenance reflects your feeding, you should be ok. I do one to two 30-50% water changes a week with gravel vacs in my fish tanks, and 70% water changes with vacs twice weekly in my invert tanks where food sits longer. Hope this helps.

I've been feeding about 4-5 days out of 7 in my tanks. I've been doing 2-3 days of Tetra Pro flakes - they don't dissolve as quickly as other flakes. The other days I put in some sort of frozen food (mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, blood worms) and try to do a big piece of cucumber at least once a week.

Obviouly also depends on what fish you have....

I feed most tanks twice daily...but I do heavy water changes due to my overstocking.

Fry tanks are fed several times a day, with daily water changes up to 100%.

judging feeding is hard to get used to.

I feed twice daily for about a minute at a time...you will get a feel for how much to add. feed slowly and watch them eat. don't just chuck in a load of food. also, try and ensure they're all taking some - you may need to target feed; little over here, then a little over there; the less aggressive fish will quickly learn how to nip in and get some.
