Hey guys quick question here. Ive had a betta for about 3 months now and he seems to be doing good. I feed him 2 floating pellets a day.(one in the morning and one at night). Anyways i talked to a lady that had a betta and she fed hers like 6 pellets a day. Am i underfeeding or is she overfeeding?

many people put 4-6 in at each feeding time and wait then take out what they do not eat within five or ten minutes. try feeding an extra pellet or two at each feeding, he will eat three, IMO, each meal. That is what i do with mine and he is happy.

How big is a pellet?

Well, if your betta can still eat after that pellet, try to give him more. The general rule is feeding as much as your fish can eat in 3 minutes, but the betta might gorge himself. Just see how much he can eat by increasing the amount of food you give each day until you find a satisfactory amount.

Thanks guys, the pellets are very small. Ill see if he wants a little more and judge by that.

I have a question. I have had my betta for about 4 days now and he doesnt eat right away. I put the pellets in there and about 30 min later he might start nibbling at them. Will he start eating better since he is still new? Also the pellets seem big for him, like I dont think he can just swallow them up.

i have the larger pellets as well, and mine takes one in his mouth and spits out half, then eats the rest. Your betta may be a little afraid of the new environment give it a week or two and make sure the betta is eating something. Also, you can get smaller pellets for bettas, i would suggest flakes imo.

Bettas can be picky eaters and their stomachs are only about as big as their eye. I feed mine 2 betta bio-gold pellets twice a day. Some are more prone to constipation if overfed than others. I always figure less is better than more.

i feed mine freez dried blodworms and they goble them right up i have be carful cuz they eat as much as i put in there. i am going to start adding regular bettas pelletts to there diet soon.

Mine get a few pellets for breakfast and a handfed bloodworm for dinner. Sundays they get a bit of frozen pea and on special occasions, a brine shrimp.

I also use the betta bio gold and bloodworms every now and then. I had bought some bigger pellets to switch up the diet but mine has trouble eating them so i just use the bio gold.
