What do you feed a Siamese Algae Eater? I've never had one of these fishes before, although I've searched high and low for one. I finally bought one recently but he was listed as a Flying Fox by the LFS. But I'm pretty sure he's a SAE based on pics I've seen.

I was thinking about buying Hikari Algae wafers, but how about Wardley's shrimp pellets? Or is there another food you would recommend? Should I feed the wafers at night after the lights turn off, or during the day? For now, the SAE is working on the algae, but I would like to supplement his diet once in awhile rather than have him eat algae all the time. Thanks for any info you can provide.

In my experience SAEs are not picky eaters, day or night. Feeding should not be a problem.
Beasts

SAEs are pigs, they will eat just about anything. They are also lazy and will eat fish foods before algae when its available.

SAEs are sometimes called flying fox even though there are also other fish called the same thing..

My SAE is a pig and eats flake food right off the surface of the water. Dropping in something after lights out will allow him to get to food that others won't be able to get to at night.
