For a 10 gallon tank I would not put in females unless you get a dwarf gourami or a betta to eat the fry. So here is what I would do:

1. 1 dwarf gourami OR 1 female betta + 1 male guppy and 3 females + 4 ghost shrimp

2. 5 male guppies + 4 ghost shrimp + 2 ottos

If you want to breed them then 1 male to every 2 females is good, and make sure you have other tanks for the fry.

Honestly it depends on if you want fry and how much fry you want. Any other fish that you would like to be in the tank?

Female Guppies usually eat their fry but having a Gourami will help control population. I would go with 1 male Guppy, 3 Female Guppies and a Dwarf Gourami.

i bought 5 female guppies and at 12 A.M one started having the drop so i had to go to walmart and buy a breeder net to keep them in there um im guessing she had about 30+ so if u want to keep the fry then dont get anything but if u want the population in order yeah get those gourmis....if i were u i would keep te fry and resale them to supply u with fish food, filters, medicines etc. um ok well anyways what type color u got females

Guppies don't need salt.

Warning: if you choose both male & female guppies, you will end up with many, many baby guppies. Unless you have housing for all these guppies, you would do well to choose 1 gender only.

Guppies are very active fish and require quite a bit of swimming room. I'd recommend 4 gups tops.

I had a spare 20g, decided to turn it into a plant tank to house excess plants from my bigger tanks and also make it a feeder tank to raise snails and guppies as feeders. I decided on fancy guppies since they would also make the tank look half way decent. I put in 3 males and 2 females. It took just a few months and there were probably 50 guppies in there  and this is not in ideal conditions either - I mean I have no filter no heater no air pump no nothin other than a hood and 15W light fixture, but they multiply like mad. Anyone want any guppies?
