Do Electric Yellows get along with German Blue Rams, or would this be a bad combination? If not, what fish would get along well with the Electric Yellows?

Would Blue Rams be compatible with more species than the Yellows?

Microgeophagus ramirezi do best in very soft water, particularly for breeding. while the pH level is not critical within reason, hardness is important. to spur spawning, a conductivity level of approximately 25-125ppm is ideal, though some captive specimens may spawn at a slightly higher TDS.

soft water is also critical for proper egg development. water that is harder has a lower osmotic pressure, compared to the inside of the eggs. water will not flow into the eggs and properly harden them, causing the eggs to turn white and possibly fungus.

East African cichlids such as the yellow lab (Labidochromis caeruleus) do best in hard, alkaline water and are far to rambunctious for the more placid rams. this goes for virtually ALL east African cichlids from lake malawi.

So, to sum all of that up in one word...

No.

German Blue's are nuetral to acidic water, peaceful cichlids, while the electric yellow prefers very alkaline water and can be very aggressive.

Hope this helps.

No, will not work, water parameters of both fish are pretty much totally different, american vs. african.

That helps! Thanks for your input. What would you recommend as a good tankmate for a few Electric Yellows? Or would they rather be alone?

blue regal peacocks well any peacocks really make good tank mates for yellow labs with the exception of maybe ob peacocks they tend to be a lil on the aggressive side

More yellow labs. They breed easy, the babies take care of themselves, and they're always in demand.

I'm thinking about just making it an electric yellow only tank. How many would be ideal for a 29 gal tank?

None, unless you are upgrading to a larger tank soon.

IMO 29 gallons is just too small for full grown labs long term. I would say they would be okay in there for 6-10 months though, after that I would look into getting them a 55 gallon.

:)
If you were going to upgrade then you could probebly get away with 1 male and 3-4 females.
