Electric eel as a pet?

I knew it, I've got some nasty jabs from my ghost knife when I went to move it. when it's not happy it will make it's presence known..

they are cool, im waiting for spring to come before i pick a few up.

They had 3 of them at the Belle Isle Aquarium...But the current administration for the city of Detroit saw their way fit to shut that beautiful aquarium down :rant2: ....It was the oldest running aquarium in the nation too...such a sad day that was.

They have a big eel in the Boston Aquarium as well. Very cool but you would need a large tank. It was surrounded by a school of neons.

I watched a documentary of some guys collecting them in the wild for research. One of the guides was wearing what looked like oven cleaning gloves and picked one up. He looked like he was hit with a taser. Good luck keeping one of those monsters.

I keep venoumous fish (stingrays) and I know I can be stung any moment if I'm nor careful, but I'm not affraid of them as long as they are at a reasonable distance and i'm not disturbing them. I believe that keeping electric eels is more risky but can be safe as long as you follow some safety rules.

*** Couls I use a electric eel to light my tanks?
