I received the Duckeed plant today which I bought it from Aquadise.

First of all, I have tested the water and I have 0 Ammonia, 25 ppm Nitrite ! Should I add the duckweed to the aquarium or it will mess the water parameters even more ?

Can I leave it in the plastic bag for another few days or it will die ? Is there any preventive procedure I have to do in order to keep it alive before adding it to the aquarium ?

Thanx in advance.

a. you bought duckweed? most places give it away for free.
b. water changes will remove the nitrite. don't rely on plants to do it for you, especially if you have fish in the tank that you would like to keep alive.
c. it will probably start to turn brown in the bag, at least put it in a bucket where there can be air exchange.

a. I never knew that. I bought it for 3.99$ wth free shipping. Can you please referre me to where I can get it for free.

b. I want to add the duck weed becasue I love it and want to add it to my aquarium.

c. I will put it in a bucket right away.

Thanx

There are places that actually sell Duckweed???

:omg:

I never thought that it's such an ordinary thing to get duckweed for free. How can I know ?

Be advised once you have it, Its very difficult to get rid of if you decide to do so someday, we got a few tiny pieces in a bag when we bought some fish, when i netted the fish to plop them in some must have stuck to the net, 2 weeks later it stated to take over, it was growing every where, even inside the filters, it took me about a month to finally get rid of the stuff, picking through the filters every couple of days, just fyi..........:)

Even inside the filter !!! This is not nice at all... Will fishes like Chinese Algae eater, Tin Foil Barb eat it ?

The stuff seems like it grows over night, thats why its usually free, small fish like that would not be able to keep up,,,, :)

Put the duckweed in your tank, they're not going to mess up your water unless they're dying, in which case they're going to die anyway if you leave them in the bag. If anything, they'll help water conditions.

Don't know if the barbs will eat duckweed but there are fishes that eat duckweed, congo tetras cleaned my tank of duckweed rather quickly.
