I have had big cichlids for years, what I want to know is if anyone has had an full grown umbee in a tank with other cichlids of the same size . I have never owned an umbee before and their reputation preceeds them. I am thinking of puting one in my main tank, but I have a dovii and I am just a little concerned. I know how to adjust new fish to a new tank and I know all about fighting and so on , but I just want to know if anyone has done this or has links to places that have done it.

Have you seen my pics of my umbie over on AquaMojo.com? Myself and Cichlidscene have large umbie. Cichlidscenes is over 20inches!! Mine is around 13"-14".... Just a baby
I have also kept a male dovii a few years back. Neither will tolerate any tankmates of any kind. Especially the umbie. I cant even put my hand near the tank without the umbie attempting ot eat it.

However, It has been reported that in the wild H. nicaraguense will move their fry into the nests of dovii to help protects them... afterall whats ganna eat the dovii??

Yeah I have seen them, what do you think made me want to have a dovii and an umbee in the first place, you guys are ledgends. The reason I am asking is because I have had different combinations of cichlids over the years , for example I had a midas and an oscar in an 125g in the same tank before and when the midas got to about 10 inches goodbye oscar, but in my 1850g the fish are bigger and the swim happily together side by side, this tank also has a dovii in it. And I will tell you I have not seen one bit of aggression out it, or any of the fish for that matter, but he dose try to attack my wife through the glass when she goes near it, go figure  . Btw I have 3 midas in this tank, and it is said that midas will not tolerate others of the same speices, but they get along fine. That got me thinking that I might be able to keep an umbee in there as well, ofcorse I would have to get rid of one or two other fish. Do you guys live close by each other?

In 1800gallons I would imagine territorial disputes are a bit more dispersed. Ive seen Mojos 2000gal. pond and in that he has Dovii, citrinellum, a 3' pacu, and 2" gouramis and evertything in between. with many of them breeding. The larger territory definitely works! Im having a 500gallon tank made for me and when completed it will host a dozen or so mid sized CA cichlids that I think will probably get along well in the large tank, but that I wouldnt put together in say.. a 150 gal.

I saw mojos pond a while back and that sort of help me decide to put a dovii in my tank, but it was that 18 inch now 19 inch umbee and your great looking umbee that makes me want one. I just hoping that 1850g will be enough. I hope so b/c they are both awsome fish.
