Does anyone have a tank with black sand for substrate?

I remember a while ago someone here posted a pic of their tank with black sand substrate. I'm thinking of doing this for my new 10G. LFS only had white red and green sand today, I'd have to order the black.

Was wondering if anyone here has a pic of their black sand tank, and as a general opinion, is sand harder to maintain than gravel? One last question: In general, what color fish look good with a dark colored substrate and which look good with a light colored substrate? I'm still deciding on the fish...I always heard the dark substrate shows the fish's colors off...but the white sand was so pretty, aren't their some fish that would look good with white sand?

Thanks! :D

I have black sand. I have it because my bluecrayfish show very nicely against the black. I use a siphon, and inevitably end up with some sand along with the waste.

I also have whiteclouds and paradisefish, both of which have bright red on them. That looks nice too. Try these pics, not too good and I just upgraded to a 30L, but it might give you and idea.

I have black sand in my 10 gallon and it looks good when it's perfectly clean, but is shows EVERTHING. Even my best attempts to vaccum the bottom never get everything. I'm looking to do a 50 or 90 gallon very soon but I will be going with white/beige sand instead this time round.

I just got black sand for my 10g shell dwellers tank. I like the look and it makes the colors of the fish stand out but it does show the crud at the bottom of the tank. But even with it showing dirt more i still like it, it makes me clean it more often if i can see it :)

I wouldnt' go with lighter sands(whites, light beige) as i know people who have and they ended up hateing it. It makes the fishes colors washed out.

If you dont' want black go for a plain natural brown

Thanks for the pics and feedback everybody. I do like the look, but not sure about the showing all the crud part. Especially since this tank is going in my basement where I'll have to haul buckets up and down the stairs, I don't plan on doing any "extra" water changes if you KWIM. Only the bare neccesary water changes on this tank! I'm wondering how it would look if I mixed a little red sand into the black sand...That might help with the showing the crud too. Just an idea.

I have onyx sand made by seashem and I love it, brings out the color in everything. Also have a black background which helps. I would recommend not feeding the day before your water change. I skip feeding on saturday which is also my cleaning day. I always see a ton of waste on sunday, so, I will start to skip feeding on friday.
