Do I need a heater for a 2.5gallon tank

HI,
i have a betta. And the temperature of his aquarium keeps going up and down.
I'm starting to think that i need a heater. What do YOU think????

Yes, stability is important for bettas and they do so much better when the heat is higher. If a small heater is too hard to find think about egtting one of those reptile heating pads and placing it under the tank. Otherwise why not just upgrade the tank to a 5 gallon. It will be much easier to buy a heater for and a 5 gallon does not cost very much money.

The 5 gallon tank will cost less then the heater itself, heck a 10 gallon tank will probably.

at my local lfs, a 10 gal tank is only 60 cents more than a 5.5 gallon . Id just get one of the cheaper 25 watt heaters... probably only 9 bucks.

If it is only changing by 1-2 degrees no big deal, but yes if they are larger fluctuations I'd get a small heater. Be very careful about what heater you buy. You need around 5 watts per gallon and without a thermostat you could easily cook the betta.

Wal Mart around here have a very small heater recomended to use for 2.5-5 gallon tanks. Does not have a temperature control but seems to keep my 5 gallon about 78-80 degrees, although i do want to get something a little better its definatley better than what you have now.

I've got a heater in my 5 gallon tank, it is one from Walmart that is recommended for a 2-5 gallon tank. It keeps the water around 76-78. I think it was about $5.00.
