I have 2 angels in my 75 gallon planted tank that I suspect are both male. One is solid black and the other is striped black and gold with some blue. They pretty much ignore each other until one gets too close to the other. Generally the striped one will start nipping at the black one until it gets tired of it and runs the striped one off. They are both about the same size. The tank has been setup since labor day. Had some other angels in it with them, but they bought it due to a heater malfunction, and then there was a runty one that just got picked on to death I am afraid.

Anyway, I am figuring these 2 aren't gonna school anytime soon, but I was wondering if getting Angels to school is kind of a hit or miss thing, or if they generally tend to do it or if they have to be a pair?

I believe you'll need a group of at least 5/7 juvies for them to school. I could be wrong. I do know adults tend to be more independent, territorial & less tolerant unless a mated pair. The tank size & layout as well as other fish can also play a roll. "T"

in a large tank with a large number..they will exhibit schooling tendencies.

they will break off and form pairs and these pairs wil defend territories. I have discovered tho that they may exhibit schooling nature when not spawning.

I have 2 pair in a 55 ..when they are not spawning they will stay together until one pair or both start spawning again.
