I'd like to make a sump filter for a salt water tank. Does anyone know the best way to go about doing that? This would also include converting the tank so that it could use a sump.
I would actually be using it for a freshwater in this case becasue ot increases dramatically the water and air interaction reducing nitrites, nitrates, and ammonia, to almost nothing, but I will try in they saltwater DIY
I made one it was from a 10dollar 10gal glass aquarium from Walmart, then i had some acrylic cut to fit the aquarium and make different chambers...ok heres a diagram...the grayish color lines represent the acrylic "walls" and the dark blue arrows indicate water flow and the refugium is where you can put live rock ans live sand if its a SW tank for my FW i put a cheap plant light over it and have some shrimp my feeder fish and some plants in there...you will also need to make an over flow box to be in the aquarium and thats a whole nother story!!!
One small thing this will not take out nitrates the bacteria that eat those grow in an oxygenless environment...there fore you need another reactor to get rid of those...or just do water changes!!
