Deep in the heart of texas
I have been meaning to post new tank build threads here on AC, but my life has just been so crazy that I'm not able to be on AC much any more, sad to say; I really miss AC and you guys.

I haven't left the hobby, however. I have a new 20 long that has 25+ Chili Rasboras, Neocardina heteropoda yellow var., Amanos, and assorted snails.

I reworked my 40 breeder that was home to my bad boy Macrobrachium, I rehomed the monster, and now that tank has 16 Rummy nose tetras, 8 Ottos, green Babaulti shrimp, snails, and plants that I got from Msjinkzd. What a gorgeous bunch of stuff it is; everything she sends is just top notch and wonderfully packed.

My problem is the Rummies are a bunch of weenies, lol. They are just very timid.

When they see me they think I'm Godzilla, or something. Even when I feed them they run and hide like they are expecting a Texas chainsaw massacre, and it's "OH LORD HERE SHE COMES!! RUN!! RUN!!" when I do water changes. They are just positive I'm going to eat them.

I was planning to order about a dozen Cardinals to put in with the Rummies. I'm hoping the Cards will be more bold and will be a calming influence and will help get these guys to come out of hiding.

I think, too, when I have more plants to fill in the back they will feel more secure, so I'm ordering plants from Rachel at the same time I place an order with her for fish.

I was wondering what you guys think. All input will be very much appreciated.:)

I think they will come out more with more cover.:)

this used to happen with my gold rams, but now, they are always out as there is more cover with plants, and DW.

I had a similar problem with harlies. In addition to being afraid of me, they were completely freaked out by the tank light turning on. I solved the problem by a) always feeding immediately after turning the tank light on for the day, and 2) sitting in front of the tank during the feeding, sometimes doling the food out a little at a time. It really helps to associate lights, lid opening and giant people outside the tank with "FOOD! FOOD! FOOD!" Fish brains aren't exactly the most complicated, lol. ;)

I'd double or triple the number of rummies, myself.

:hi:Hi Mel!!!

I would add more rummies as well, although I do think some cardinals would look pretty snazzy in there with them..Hope to see you around more often :)

H2O, I'm doing that already, lol. They wait until I leave and then go scarf the food off the substrate. Even when I feed them FBWs.

I do think more plants will help, FishBoss, I hope to get a lush, filled in back area soon.

Slappy, I like that idea, too. I may ask Rachel to get some Rummies for me. I love the idea of Cardinals in there, but I'm worried that they may not be a bold fish, either, and then I'd have two types of weenies in there hiding out all day, lol.

I'll try to upload a couple of pics, now, so you guys can give me suggestions on the 'scape. I wanted to do a progressive thread, but fooey... I'll just upload pics of the end results, thus far, so you can see what the Rummy tank looks like.

help uploading pics

Wow, things have changed. How do I upload pics from my desktop. When I click on the paper clip it offers choices among photos I've already uploaded to AC in my Albums on my profile page, but I have pics on my desktop I want to upload. Heeeeellllp.

Hi Juice! :) I like the idea of more Rummies and I like the idea of Cardinals, too. Sheeesh.... decisions!
Oh, and thanks, I hope I can be here more often, too.

Try clicking the little picture icon next to the world and the film strip

For uploading pics ^

after you click the paperclip, then you click the add files icon on the top with the green +.

then it will show a small popup, and then on that, you click the icon select files.

once you do that, then you choose the pics you want(as many as u want)
