hi!okay, last week i was looking for a diatom filter and one of the employees at one of my lfs said that he can sell me one of his for 60$, but he also said that buying a Wet Dry Filter Tray Pad would be the same thing as buying a diatom filter. is this true???he said that buying a diatom filter was just expensive because it was its own unit and didnt need to go in my whisper filter like the Wet Dry Filter Tray Pad did.Does anyone know alot about diatom filters that can help me out??should i buy one??or just stick to buying more of the Tray Pads??

what??
no way is that the same

you cannot duplicate the diatom filter with a filter pad.

the diatom filters the water thru diatomaceous earth..it is used generally to 'polish' water..it will dramatically clear the water. but they clog easily .

:iagree: They do come in handy for polishing water and I have used mine to get rid of green water. I don't think I would run it all the time and am not sure if they were even designed to run all the time.

They will definately make the water clearer but you still need to use your filter and filter pad. It will clean free floating algae but will not solve the problem that caused it. I would not rely on on a diatom filter alone. They are pretty high maintenance because they do clog fast.
