I found my cats hanging around the tank, and was just wondering if the dechlorinator in the tank could make them sick? I wouldn't THINK so, but just being safe.

One of my cats insists on drinking fishtank water. She seems okay...

mine as well, my oldest female cat is always drinking from the filter... she has been doing this for years and seems just fine but before we didnt use dechlorinator and now we do and she still seems fine

my dog drank from my snail tank for a while ( bucket w/ declorinated water, plants and snails) it was a mess because he would leave little drops of water all over my room as it dripped from his chin.... and the wood floor did not have a finish...

I was under the assumption that the decholorinator, if safe for our delicate fish, would almost certainly be safe for other animals or even us.

I may be wrong but don't survival kits come with strong cholorine tablets to kill bacteria in found water and decholr tabs to take some of it back out again if you need to drink it right away?

It was the "Keep away from children" that had me wondering, not to mention the "If swallowed seek medical attention". I suppose thats just if large amounts were ingested.

  • dechlorinator by itself is harmful
  • chlorine by itself is harmful
  • chlorine from your tap water is not harmful to cats
  • dechlorinator diluted in tank quantities of water is not harmful regardless of whether water was chlorinated or not unless you OVER dechlor the water by a INSANE amount
