i saw a crowntail betta today at my LFs and it said the crowntail was a male?well i got some questions are all crowntail fish Males? and since they are a Male betta do they get aggressive in a community tank?

Both the females and the males from Crowntail lines have the crowntail. Males still have longer fins, but it's not nearly as pronounced as in the half-moon lines. That is, female crowntails have almost equal finnage to crowntail mails.

They are still bettas, and they will still be aggressive and territorial given each individual fish's personality. I haven't heard of off-hand rule that says crowns are less agressive in relation to other bettas, so I imagine your chances of sucessfully getting one to live in a community tank are about the same as any other betta.

The only difference between crowns and standard bettas aside from physical appearance is hardiness. Crowns are just a touch less vigorous and slightly more prone to fin rot. But nothing you would really notice so long as the fish are kept in the proper conditions.
