Hey everyone,
I need some advice/help. I'm getting a 75 gallon tank, with the hope of creating a species tank of Silver Dollars. I love these fish and since I was a kid wanted a tank full of them. So my question is how many can I SAFELY put into the tank. I know about using fake plants etc. Also what about filtration? How much turnover should I be looking at? Any help would be great!
Thanks

I love it.

If no overflow/wet/dry you could get a Filstar xP3 along with a Penguin biowheel.

Or something like that... one canister filter, another HOB.

i have 4 in my 55, so you could probably have about 6 safely, IMO

6-8 looks like a good school of SD's in a 75G

i try to aim for 10x turnover rate with messy fish, but SD's are pretty good so anywhere above at least 5x will be great.

6-8 seems fair. I would shoot for a filtration of about 5-7x the tank volume per hour.

The term "silver dollar" can apply to a large number of different fish that range form 4-9 inches. The most common are Metynnis hypsauchen and Metynnis argenteus. Which max out around 5-6inches. Probably a school of 6-8 smaller ones would do well for awhile in a 75, than a 125 would suit the school nicely.

I personally really like and keep the black-barred Myleus schomburkii and the red-hooks.
