my friend has a 5 gallon tank in his garage. i have a crayfish in my 29 gallon tank along with other fish, but even tho he hasnt harmed them i dont want to take the chance. i was wondering if i could set up the 5 gallon tank with slate, gravel etc, and a filter.
At my lfs could i buy a filter small enough for a 5 gallon and a lid small enough for it. also would this be a good idea? it really is my only option.

I had mine setup in a maintenance free 5 gallon for a couple of years. A small school of self replicating guppies fed off naturally occuring algae and the the guppies kept the crayfish fed. All I did for two years was add a little bit of make up water to offset evaporation.

I kept an in berry female comfortably in a 5g hex. There was adequate room for a cave so she could hide if she needed to. Don't use a UGF, make sure you change the water fairly frequently, no heater, and drop in an airstone. It should work, although it doesn't really give the cray much walking room, and they do like to explore.

It would depend on the crayfish... something American should be ok, Aussie crays would outgrow it fairly readily.
