I was always told corys were bottom feeders, they don't eat algae. I just got a pair of otos and I've had a pair of ghost shrimp for a few months. So a while back I bought Hikari Algae Wafers "for algae eaters". My corys DEVOUR THEM. I use to scatter a few small pieces and if the shrimp find them first they take em and hide them away to enjoy in peace... but if the corys get there first there is usually nothing left. I started feeding larger portions of the wafers for the otos and they haven't gotten near them yet as the corys have a dogpile going on top of this big piece of wafer
I guess it makes sense as the wafers do say they are made up of a good portion of vegetable matter, but I was suprised they go at them so excitedly compared to anything else.

Has anyone else had similar experiences?

My corys love algae wafers too. I have to put some up on the tree stump I have in my tank and some in the opposite corner so my poor otos get some. My snails love them too.

Mine love them too. I throw them in for the clown plecs, but the corys and loaches usually get them first.

Ditto here...wouldn't that be a "catpile" though? :)

FYI, they actually have a reasonable amonut of protein...

 catpile.

As for the protein, thats good for them. I didn't realize that. I had been feeding them sinking shrimp pellets every other day for that, and they love those too. Unfortunetly my ghost shrimp tend to grab those up quickly if they can. They seem to eat anything they can find though.
