I need advice on the 'best' compact digital camera to buy.

I've looked at several makers and decided not to go with Pentax, HP or Kodak. I have a full-sized Olympus C-8080WZ, but need a "full-time" carry camera that will fit in a shirt pocket.

Thanks...

Joe, I remember when yoiu answered this very samne question for me a while back. Let me say though that I found the Olympus SP500-Z the tops above all with the camera's I've seen/used. Can't you just get a carrying case? Mine fits in my pocket, albeit bulkily though but it can fit if I needed it to....

I've been quite impressed with the Canon Powershot line of cameras, and I just went with a cheap 6mp A610. I typically shoot pro-SLR bodies and went with the A610 as a pocket camera for when I don't need or want to carry anything else. On post processing, the sharpness is superb, and set to ISO 200 or less, you shouldn't even have to run any noise removal programs.

I also like www.dcresource.com for reviews.

The Sony Cyber-shot series is awesome in my opinion. Quick start up, very little shutter lag, automatic and manual controls, compact size and most importatntly you can change the color mode to "rich" which increases saturation and is closer to the fantastic colors that you get when using slide film. If it was a film camera or digital SLR I would say Nikon, but anything compact and electronic I go with Sony.

No idea how it compares to other brands, but my cybershot's macro feature (I have the 6 megapixal model) gets all the way down to 1:1 ratio.

Thanks all! If anyone else wants to comment, I'm checking the topic...

Yes, I did answer that question. But, now the cam selection is a bit more 'difficult'. There are so many choices. The new Olympus "very compact" and waterproof camera has some lens distortion. So. I'm staying away from that model. I still like Olympus quality, but not for that new compact camera...

The Best ever small digital camera I've had was my little Minolta camera. It was compact, sturdy, metal housing (Not the cheesy plastic like most) had a nice screen on it, was easy but had lots of nifty features....I really miss that camera...it was stolen from my car.
Anyhoo, now I have one of the Sony cybershots..Also a very nice camera, however I've had some problems with it recognizing the built-in internal memory. It also doesn't like to read JPG's that have been messed with at all....something my Minolta was able to do without any problems.
You might have to order it online as i haven't seen any in the retail stores around here, but I think they make pretty nice cameras overall....
Of course, I'm angry with Sony about the mass laptop battery recall thing...But that's because I have to deal with the angry public, nother story all together.
