Hey all. I have two jewel cichlids. they are both about 1.5 inches long. One appears to be female becuase she has a less definded spot near her tail.

Last week I tested the PH and it was 6.7 so I removed the driftwood and added PH up over the course of the next week and the PH is now 7.4. I also started them on a deit of veggie flackes and frozen brineshimp.

The female has started to turn pink. They were both gray when I bought them from the LFS but now the female's belly is turning a cool pink color and it is creeping up her side. Is this just normal for Jewels as they age or is this an adverse reaction to the enviromental and diet changes?

Will the other one (male?) turn crimson as well?

thanks.

I've found mine change colors quite often. The pale grey color is from stress (from new tank, surroundings etc.) You will probably see it again if you move the fish, or do some kind of drastic change. When they are mating they will become VERY bright. My female has always been lighter in color, changing from orange to pink for whatever reasons. My males are darker red, and seem to get a green tinge sometimes.

Yeah, My male is greenish too but it has a lot of blue specs. They are sure as hell getting mean though. They nearly fin nipped my yelow lab to death and he is 4 inches long!!!

They let NOTHING get near there cave. not even my 6inch palmas eel. They are mean little fish.

Yes, quite mean. I have 3 and they are like a wolf pack. They will take on my 6" JD as a group sometimes... Hey, I can't see your avitar, but spitfire and zero are 2 wwII fighters. Any correlation?

My computer is missing jscript engine so it will not run and javascript correctly. I think that is why my avatar doesn't work. I can not post attachments either. The button isn't even there. OH well.

My avatar is a pic of my jewel cichlid
