Well I was sitting here this morning, just browsing craigslist, and I heard a loud pop come from my 29 gallon, and then there was a TON of CO2 bubbles, huuuuuge bubbles streaming towards the surface.

Naturally I ran over and looked, yup, sure enough, my glass/ceramic co2 diffuser has a huge crack all down the side of the bell.

luckily it didn't break into pieces, so I wont need to replace the substrate, but I am pissed about it being broken, its practically brand new, but I bought it online without a return policy...

Oh and the weirdest thing, I am on DIY co2 still....I didn't think they could get that much pressure...

Ouch sorry for that to happen man. What kind of diffuser??

It was the glass kind that has a ceramic disc in it to force small bubbles.

It was some off-brand if thats what you are asking, I bought it on ebay from some guy in australia...

just use a fine plastic airstone from lee... it makes miniscule bubbles after a little use

alot of time the diy co2 airstones/diffusers collect a slim/residue material that clogs regular airstones and co2 diffusers. It might of clogged some of your pores in your diffuser creating pressue. Still you're probably right about it not creating that much pressure. Sorry for the luck, probably a bad diffuser from the start. I attached my diy to the bottom of a container (like an empty food container) and filled the rest up with pea sized gravel. This slows the co2 enough for abosorbtion and I can clean out the gravel easily and cheaply. It also helps break the bubbles down.

I would just pick up some cheap limewood airstones, even Petco sells 3 coralife woodstones for 9.99, if your LFS doesnt carry them.
