Hello all. I have a clown fish for about 3 months that has a white spot on it's side and under it's fin. My main tank developed ick so I moved everyone to a QT for over a month. I teated them for over a month with Sea Cure Copper, Copper Safe, Maracyn 1 & 2 and Maroxy. Also did fresh water formalin dips. I scraped it off with a knife once and it looked good for about 2 weeks but it appears to be coming back. Any ideas what this maybe? I think I used all the medicines possible!!! I'm afraid to move him back to the main tank until this is all cleared up.

Welcome to a.c.
Well first I hope you weren't treating it with all those meds at the same time. I can't imagine scraping the fish with knife would be very good either. If you were treating with all those meds at the same time I'd do a massive water change. Just, a word of advice please approach diseases in your fish with a light hand. Start with the gentelest and move on to more extreme messures. If you have any questions at all feel free to post.

No not at the same time. And yes I started off slow. I have had fish for most of my life but this is my first crack at Saltwater! When I scraped it off it popped right off and the fish looked great! I was wondering if a cleaning shrimp or aneonme may help with this?

I have a feeling this is harmless because the fish looks great and it has been there for a long time and not spread.

We don't know what else you have in your tank or what your set up is like so it would be impossible to say about the shrimp. Fwiw, I really think that you'll be better off if you skip the anemone. They can be really hard to take care or you have to design the tank with them in mind.

I have 2 clown fish a Royal Grama, a Hippo Tang, hermit crab, red crab, Green hairy Mushroom, 2 zoanthid polyp colonies and about 30lbs of live rock in a 55 gallon tank. I can't put a puffer in this tank correct, he will eat all the corals? Thanks for your help!

would it be bad if I huddle in a corner picturing fish being scraped with a KNIFE?

Is there any way you can post pics? Also look REALLY closely at the Blue Hippo Tang (they are ich/disease magnets) so if nothing is wrong with him then it could just be a Clown issue. Also I would not add a puffer. Not only will it go after the corals but also the hermits. Your tank will one day be overstocked with the increasing size of the Tang. Anyway hope this helps and good luck!

Pic of white stuff on Clown

I was able to get a picture of it. Does anyone have an idea what this is????And how can I get rid of it. It is only on one clown fish. You can see it on his fins and it is also on his side. It's sort of looks like cotton....He doesn't scratch himself on the rocks or anything. It doesn't appear to spread to the other fish. The fish appears to be perfectly healthy, it doesn't seem to bother him. It started out smaller on his fin and side and has been there for about 3 months!
