the other day my clown fish started doing backflips and spinning around etc. it kept doing it for about an hour and finaly stopped but then to just sit on the bottom, and then dissaperd. i moved some of my live rock around and found him under one dead! i figure he died from the stress caused from doing backflips...but does anyone know why and how this would have happend in the first place?:help:

Hello mate, welcome to the forums..

Sorry to hear your loss...First off, please do the standard Ammonia, nitrITE and nirrATE, pH and salinity water checks and post the results..That may give us an indecation straight away is something is out of wack...

Niko

Hey,
My parameters are:
Ammonia - 0
Nitrite - 0.0
Nirtate- 5.0
pH- 8.1
Saltinity - 1.022
Temp - 25C
The tank is a 80G saltwater and is just over a month old i put in 2 clown fish and the other is fine, but is now more shy when the other died

when you pulled the fish out of the tank, did you inspect it? as said above, there is a possibility it could of been poorly when you got it...how long have the clowns been in the tank mate?

Niko

i looked at the fish when i took it out and it look fine, no slime holes dots etc... they were both in for jsut about a week

When I had one, my clownfish was shy as well. I added a buddy for him and they swim all over.

What you measured for salinity is really called specific gravity. Salinity is in ppt.

Don't know if it's relevant but I had a blue cheek gobie did that. I couldn't understand why until I discovered my anemone was disintegrating. Don't know if you have an anemone but if you have might be worthwhile checking it out.
