I only bought them about 2 weeks ago and they are going at it. They dance around eachother and the male who used to be the most peaceful member of the tank keeps snapping and all the other fish that come near. Is this breeding or something leading up to breeding? When I bought the male he looked very similar to the female but in the last 2-3 days he lost his black spots and stripes and has started turning blueish. (yay! I was expecting it to take a long time)

Since then the female has already laid a few eggs and she is holding in her mouth. should i separate her from the rest of the tank or wait untill the fry hatch?

Congrats on the spawn! I'd let her hold in the tank unless she starts getting picked on. I usually strip 3 weeks after spawning, depending on the species.
