Cant find cheap used 30-60 Power Filters

There was a time you couldn't hit the keyboard with a dead cat and not find a used 30-60 Power filter for like $15-$20 shipped. Now that I need one for my next 160 tank project to DIY a Pothos Nitrate Filter, they have become harder to find then diamonds. They do have some funky new one on Buy-Now auction for $30 shipped but the reservoir is too small IMO. By the time you figure in shipping you might as well buy a new Aqua-Tech 30-60 at your local Walmart for $36. If you can believe it of all the different brand HOB filters I have converted to Nitrate filters, Aqua-Tech has been the most trouble free and has the thinnest profile to fit behind a tank less then 3". Looks like it will have to be a Walmart Aqua-Tech 30-60.

Gunner, I bow to none in my loathing for Mal-Wart, but I gotta say that their Aqua-Tech has run as well as any mechanical device I have had in recent memory.

Worst thing it did was collect a few cat hairs on the impeller. (hey, the cat was sick and I was letting it stay in my room to keep him quiet and give him extra feedings. It was winter and he wouldn't stay off the warmth of the hood on the 10g.) It --the filter, not the cat--made bad noises one day; I took it out, cleaned off the impeller shaft, put it back in and it has run without fail from that day to this.

/free testimonial. Although the A/T people are welcome to send me a payoff to increase my happiness with their product yet further. :)

Rod In California probably bought them all up!!
There is a post by Rod somewhere in the AC archives where he admits having so many used HOB deals in his closet as spares that if he were to open the door the avalanche of used HOB's would kill his cat.

Speaking of dead cats XanAvaloni, I have 2 again (live), I recently rescued another black Bombay since my male Bombay was recently taken by a coyote trying to defend the female. I plan to build them an aviary adjacent to the house so they can slip out the cat door and hang outside without being taken.

LoL you guys are way toooooo funny :) I have sinced cleaned out those storage closets and got rid of all those filters i had stored away. all i have now is a closet full of HOT Mag micron carts about 100 of them. i have 25 hot mags so rotating micron carts you need a supply on hand. after going wet/dry on all tanks i didnt have a use for all those HOBs and i needed that storage space. so alot of people got some good deals off the local craigslist when i sold them for 10.00ea

Not a fan of the kitty kat I have a small herd of tea cup chihuahuas they keep the kittys out of the yard lol

HAHAHAHA!

I have and old, old, old Whisper that looks like an AC500, a Tetra 30/60 (again an old one), and a Wally 30/60. All three still working. For the 500 clone and the 30/60, I replaced the o-ring on the energizers and it cured the leaking. I know that neither one are made in this style anymore, but most Whisper parts fit it just fine. The Aqua-Tech is running on one of the tanks (I think the flow rate is 360gph). Not sure on the 30/60 but the 20/40 (160gph) has a replaceable energizer/o-ring assembly that you might swap out for a better AC energizer or similar sized one.
