Can tetras co-exist with livebearers?

I love Tetras, especially Neons but everything I read makes me think I can't keep them with my livebearers because of the Ph and light conditions. Anyone have any stories to tell about this?

Honestly, unless it is a fish with very specific requirements (some cichlids, discus, etc.), I don't pay much attention to those recommendations. Most fish can adapt to a faily wide ph range, and as far as lights, as long as you offer hiding spots and a decent amount of plants (floating is good too, so the fish can find a shadier spot if need be), the fish should be fine. I have a few platys, a molly, a couple of guppys and a couple of schools of tetras and everyone seems very happy. BUT, I'm sure there are always exceptions... what specifically did you have in mind, just in case ;) ??

The only problem I would see is if you actually want to breed them. Then the tetras will probably eat the babies. As for water conditions, good stable tank water is the best thing. Hardness is important for breeding special species and growing certain plants under certain conditions.

That depends, I have platys in a 55 with black phantoms, betta and angelfish.
Plants cover nearly all the bottom of the tank, including some good sized masses of java moss. I have baby fish growing up well, with 15 nearing maturity and more comeing. I don't have every baby survive, but enough do that I'll have to start takeing them to the lfs in a month or two.

TKOS, everything will eat the babies. you just have to net 'em out and put them in a breeder,or make sure there are enough hiding spots for them to survive on their own
