Can Land Snails Survive underwater?

Last night the power went out, as I was sitting in the kitchen I noticed something on the glass of one of my tanks that looked like a snail. I got a flash light, and sure enough, it was a snail working its way down the front of the glass.

The weird part is, I have not added anything to the tank in months. There are no plants in there that did not come from any of my other tanks (that have no snails) the wood came from my backyard (at least 8 months ago) etc.

The snail had a shell size of around half an inch. The only tank that I have with snails is my sons, that has 2 mystery snails in it. But, this one was different. On the mystery snails I can see their mouth clearly, this one looked entirely different and I could not see its round mouth against the glass.

So, is it likely just an outside land snail that made its way in there some how? Or another possibility?

Thanks.

No. Land snails won't invade a tank. They'd drown.

What shape is the shell? Many snails bury themselves, so it's possible that you never noticed them in your other tanks, especially if you have something that eats snails or snail eggs.

The shape of the shell is not long (like an MTS) but is tall and round (but not as wide as with mystery snails) like a fairly flat shell, but clearly spiraled. I should add that the tank I saw it in has no substrate.

Land snail may not do well in the aquarium, but water snails can survive a while outside of it. Saltwater Nerites and Limpets oftentimes spend low-tide outside of the water. Apple snails often go out of the water for short periods. Maybe it somehow got in from the outside? Any bodies of water very close to your home?

Otherwise maybe it is just very good at hiding.

Must have come in as an egg or teeny baby and grown up in your tank. At half an inch, it might be a full-grown planorbis, or a half-grown planorbaris ... I think. I'm still learning about ramshorns.

What color is it? If blue, I'd be interested in taking it off your hands, if you don't want to keep it. :)

There is a pond close by, but by close by I mean 500 feet or more away.

I am pretty sure it is more of a brown color, but I saw it again last night, so will check. If it is blue then you can have it for the cost of shipping.
