I have a tank just for my cories alone, the neighbor next door offered me a free juvineile clown loach since he is moving out in about a week and selling the tank. I have heard clowns over time act as they are apart of the species. He says he has had just that one and sometimes it sleeps around or on top of his peppered cories. Can this be done as a alternative to 6 clowns'? Also what do clowns eat, he says he feeds his herbivore tablets by tetra but the little guy like to go up and down the sides of the tank nibbling on white algae and stuff?

I'm not really sure about the loach schooling with the cories. Many times similar looking species of fish will school together - so its definately in the realm of possibility.

As far as diet - loaches are scavengers so they will eat just about anything. A good balance of "vegetable" based and "meat" based is generally a safe bet.

please post back with the outcome to your schooling experiment

Good Luck

I bet ya he would. but he would school much better with other clowns if you have room.

My clowns would school with tiger barbs and tetras... basically anything that swam around. I had a group of 5 in a 90 gallon. I really miss my clowns, but they came down with ich after I didn't QT some new fish. :( I miss my clowns. I will get them again, but I have to wait for another tank and more $$ now.

for a treat, feed you clown some snails. it's really great watching them slurp them out of their shells. they also like bloodworms and even will eat flake.

thats a shame. I can see why it wouldn't work in the long run, based on sheer size alone. IME, I never kept cories with clowns. it just seemed logical that they would school up since mine schooled with barbs and such. i'd yield to real world experience here, mantis, and follow optix' advice

If you were sad and lonely-- you might be glad to sleep with the puppy, no? Loaches are sociable, as cories are.

But a sole loach hanging with the cories-- that's a sad picture, isn't it?

It's worth getting a few more Clown Loaches (just the same size)-- just for your own pleasure.

I wil get more clowns but for now I gotta stick with one (Im not the richest person in the world) lol. Im just saying can this work out for now. Also dont worry about size, i know how big these guys get in time lol. About feeding snails. We have a lake and I was wondering, could I go get about 4-5 snails a week and as a treat throw them in my aquarium so the clown can feast on them? Im gonna throw in some thawed lettuce later...
