Everything otherwise seems normal. I have been treating for ich for the last two weeks. 2tsp of salt per gal in there right now. Water temp is 84. It's really weird cause he is acting normal...just laying there looking around. No signs of wounds or anything. Just laying on the bottom.

PH is 8.0
Ammonia is 0

I'm currently out of nitrite and nitrate test kits(lfs is a hour away) but I just did a 50% water change on Tuesday. Any ideas? I just threw in some flake food and he didn't move. I'm stumped.

Last thing...he's only about two yrs old.

He's still holding on. I'll look for any ideas in the morning. :(

swim bladder problem?

I dunno. All swim bladder problems I've seen have been in goldfish. And they would always rise to the top of the tank. He's just laying on the bottom. It's too bad too, he was one of the best looking Silver Dollars I had ever seen. :( He's still hanging on but his breathing is much more labored this morning. Should I move him to a qt tank?

It sounds like a Swim bladder problem, you could try feeding it live/frozen bloodworm , crushed deshelled peas as it could just be constipated.

Hope it helps
Pablo

Hopefully he will still be hanging on when I get home. He wasn't even trying to get to the food lastnight. I'll give it a try though when I get home.

Have you done anything to add extra oxygen to the water? Like airstone, lower the water level, etc.
Cathy

I always have an airstone going.

Put him in a breeder net and try to increase surface agitation ...

Make suer in that net he has places to hide ...

Maybe hes just stressed out with a lower oxygen level and because the introduction of salt..

Weirdest thing EVER!!! I came home today, looked in the QT tank I have him in(20G) and he is SWIMMING AROUND!!! He has been laying on his side on the gravel for 6 days now.

He still won't eat but he is at least upright. I'm going to keep him in the QT tank for a long time though. I have no idea what was wrong with him and I'm not risking it in my big tank. Hopefully he will start eating soon.
