Hey guys.
I awoke to me 20g tank this morning, which has 2 fancy goldfish in... being filled with eggs! It was very unexpected but a pleasent surprise!
I know how to look after the eggs, and after collecting the eggs and putting them in a nursery tank, I am questioning whether they are fertilized or not. Although there was evidence in the water of some fertilization!! They are a brown/orangey colour. Is this normal?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated! I don't want to get over excited at the prospect of being a fish-mother!

Many thanks

:welcome: to AC, Lolen!

Please see this informative sticky thread. There are plenty of information and photos you can find and we hope this might inspire you to rear the fry successfully.

If you do plan to breed them, please make sure you have a few spare tanks to do that. Remember goldfish grow quite bulky and need plenty of space. For fancy goldies, I aim for 10-15g per adult fish. A 20g in the long run will not accommodate your pair anymore along with other new fish. If you do want to get new tanks (and assuming you're in USA), try to search in Craiglist for bargains and aim for the biggest tank you can afford, preferably a 120g or a 75g. By a long stretch, it is a worthy investment and makes your operation much more flexible.

What happened with your eggs? If they were fertilised something should have happened by now right?

Hey!
Sorry for the late reply, have been busy watching my little baby fish swimming around :D
they are so cute!
I think I have about 30 so far. A few have died and a few escaped but they are all safe again in their nursery tank!
They are doing really well. I watched them hatch out. I feel so attached to them!

Some of them still have their egg sacks, but some don't. Will it be ok to leave them until all of their eggs sacks have disappeared, (perhaps another 2-3 days), and then feed them?

WOW
congratulate
No photos yet?!!!!:headshake2:
It is a wonderful thing to have baby fish
but when i use to have goldfish what really disappointed me that fancy goldies give birth to none fancy ones
I wish you a better luck

I would imagine that they will all be ready for food around the same time if they hatched at the same time? If you do feed and they don't want it, prepare to scoop it out asap - but if it were me I would rather be scooping out unnecessary food than starving them. I know others have had great success with turkey basters for WCs.
