I'm considering on getting a RO system and installing it under a sink. This way, the water source and drain pipe are both right there. If I use brass fittings on the water line used to supply the RO system, will it leach anything into the water that could damage my RO's membrane? Or will everything get taken out before it reaches the membrane in the first place? When it comes to RO systems and plumbing, I'm a newb! :o So I just wanted to ask about this rather than get everything hooked up, then come to find out that I made a mistake that cost me money!! :duh::mad2::swear:

I understand copper leaching is more likely with acidic water. Even if you have soft water the amount of copper in a fitting is so small I think the membrame would have no problems dealing with any slight leaching.

PVC is ideal, brass is better to use than copper, but all 3 are safe to use.

I alway go to the local McLendon hardware store and get the PEX fittings and polyethylene tubing.
it's the stuff I believe is designed for the RO.

It's likely that your source water is already plumbed to your home with copper pipe. As long as you are not using it on the product side of your RO then you shold be fine. I feed all my RO systems with copper line until it goes to the small RO lines. No issues.

Best wishes!
