i am redoing my 20 gallon regular aquarium and was planning on bolivian rams. My question was dose anyone see any problems with this setup?

filter: aqueon 30 & whisper 5-15 (i had it sitting around from a garage sale)
fish: 1 pair bolivian rams, 10 tetras of some sort (thinking black skirt or neon), 3 kuhli loachs (normal if i can find them if not petsmart has blacks)

as far as decor the tank currently has 3 six inch pots stacked in the center with one three inch pot to the right and a half of another to the left. Possibly some more live plants in time but for now only has two fake plants and one aponogin(not sure on spelling)

I have 5 in 75g, I guess a pair can do well in 20g. I prefer longer tanks to shorter, but it sounds like you have plenty of places for them to go to. Mine don't seem to use the caves I made, they're always swimming about or hanging around the bottom near some wood. Nice fish, they don't bother anyone in the tank but each other. As long as you do your water changes you should have no problem. Good luck with your tank, post some pic's when you can, I'd love to see them:)

do you think they would be fine with something as small as a neon tetra? the only fish store in my area is petsmart and petco so there sizes are about 3/4" for there neons and around 2" for there rams. just don't want to put this all together and watch the rams eat $20 worth of neons. Im still a few days from starting this currently i have 4 malawis in a tank that i was mis informed about. lady at petsmart said the 4 would live fine in a 20 now two months later there all about to kill each other! Selling to nice lady on craigslist who is putting them in a 55 in the next few days then i need to change out the crushed shells in the tank for sand or gravel then i can start stocking.

good thanks for the help. il make sure to post some photos here once the tank is set up. should be about a week.

Ok well im going fish shopping tomorrow as thats when my LFS gets there shipment in. i should have pics up by monday so they all have a chance to settle in. One last question tho, ive herd that a breeding pair wont tolerate any other fish in the tank so how would 2 males do or 2 females?

They will tolerate other tank mates. There not trulymthat aggressive at all and with a school of tetra they won't be able to single one out so no problem there. What I did what to suggest is only add one or two small pots. The won't hide to often or use them unless breeding, get some nice drift wood and maybe if your up for it a couple live plants.

I had 5 Rams in a 20long for 1.5months or so, they did great and I had no issues.
They have been upgraded to a 40 since then.
