At the beginning of July I bought two pairs of Bolivian Rams. I remember reading somewhere that in captivity they only live about a year. I was back at the Petco I bought them from talking to one of the fish guys.(Thankfully both fish guys at this petco are pretty knowledgeable) He was surprised that all four have lasted this long. Therefore I was wondering, what has been the experience of other people on this forum with Bolivian Rams? How long do they live?

2-3 years in a well maintained aquarium.
they are a short lived species

It's possible that the confusion is due to the extremely slow growth rate of Bolivians. By the time you see them in the LFS they're probably around two years old already. I have several two year-olds that are still about 2", or half the size of full grown rams, despite being fed a lot of good protein food. My adults I would estimate to be about 4-5 years old, judging by size and how long I've had them.
