Alright so I have been looking into these German Blue Rams and WOW... I am very impressed by them. I don't think I have seen them at any LFS but I would be interested in ordering them at some point.

My questions are as follows; My tank is a 36g bowfront aquarium, I have two female Bettas (have not shown agression to any tankmates yet, as they were moved from a 10 gallon and there were 4 of them originally, so I think they are used to being around other fish) in the tank as well as 4 Zebra Danios and 3 male Platies. Would I be able to get a pair of these blue rams ? My PH is 6.2, which is pretty much perfect from what I hear.

Would they be compatible with the fish in there?

Any good links to Blue Ram care or any other information about them would be greatly appreciated.

Most LFS do not carry them b/c they are very hard to keep from a LFS's perspective. They are hard to acclimate and difficult to keep unless you are very good about your maintenance.

As for compatability remember the GBRs needs, especially high temps (82-84+ is ideal). I would be concerned about the betta aggression, but you would know best from their personalitiy's ;) Do bettas like higher temps? Danios? Platys?

I use to have my GBRs at 79-80, but they just seemed off. I bumped the temp to 84 and the brightened right up and are much more active!

As for the GBR aggression, this is typically reserved for their own species, unless you have a mating pair in which case they will very aggressively defend their territory.

The last difficulty is getting a pair. Most suggest getting 3, watching them closely over a few days to a week and removing the 3rd wheel out. This doesn't always work this easily, but having 2 GBRs that are not a pair would be a violent affair in a 36G (Note: getting a male and a female is not a recipe for a pair)

Yep, solo works just fine, but not ideal naturally. Many use a single GBR as a center-piece, much live a Gouramis or a Betta, or an Angel in a community tank. But again not my first choice; I would recommend getting a pair personally.

I just prefer to always provide a tank-mate for any species I keep. *Not always possible of course*

I have two pair of rams. One in the 55L surrounded by other fish and a pair in my 20H. They get along with everyone else pretty much. My gourami didn't care for the rams at first but everyone is settled in now and seem happy.

I've never kept my rams at the high temps that some suggested. Mine seem to be perfectly happy and brightly colored at temps of 78 -80. My PH sits at anywhere from 6.8 - 7.2.

Should be fine. Just keep the water clean and acclimate well. Watch for agression, but with female bettas, it's unlikely.

Blue Rams are great fish..they do tend to need a bit more care.
they prefer clean slightly acidic water..usually temp recommendations are min 82. they pair well with Discus who seem to also thrive in similar water conditions.while they can be kept single you should be aware that they will Colorup more when placed with other blue rams..Particularly if they are paired opposite sexes.
warmer water temps also help them 'colorup'.

you may find that some of the fish in your tank may not thrive in the same conditions.
the bettas will be fine

if you decide to try them..find them from a local breeder or reputable breeder. there have been issues in the past with Blue rams coming from asian fish farms and being exposed to hormones.
if you see young rams and they are colorful..there is a chance they may have been exposed to hormones and may not be very healthy.
